EVS and Food Services Teams Bring the Houston Open to Texas Children’s

At Texas Children’s Hospital, care goes beyond treatment. It’s built on connection and collaboration. Recently, that connection took shape as mini putting greens, set up in lobbies, cafés, and patient rooms across the hospital in celebration of the Houston Open.

As part of Texas Children’s title sponsorship of the Houston Open, teams across the hospital came together to bring the event to life for patients, families, and staff. What looked like a simple activity was, in reality, a reflection of something deeper: a growing culture of collaboration between departments that work together to elevate the patient and family experience.

Bringing the Tournament Inside

With support from Crothall Healthcare’s EVS team, hospital clinical staff, and Morrison Healthcare’s food and nutrition services team, together we transformed everyday spaces into cheerful putting greens. These shared areas became a chance to pause and play—a meaningful break in the day for patients and a visible show of unity from the teams behind the scenes.

This wasn’t just about hosting a fun event. It aligned with a broader effort from our EVS and Food Services teams to build stronger, more coordinated partnerships that directly support care delivery.

Teamwork That Transcends Roles

EVS associates, and food and nutrition staff welcomed families, guided patients, and brought energy to every part of the experience. Teams that often operate in parallel came together with a shared focus to create moments that matter.

For Michael Gorman, Regional Director of Operations for Crothall, it’s the kind of effort that shows what’s possible.

“We’ve always done a great job driving patient satisfaction, but we have even more opportunity to collaborate, not just with Morrison, but across the hospital system.”

His vision extends beyond single events. It’s about building a structure that allows teamwork to thrive across all campuses.

That same sentiment is shared by Jeff Sewick, Regional Director of Operations for Morrison Healthcare. “This kind of collaboration doesn’t happen by chance. It takes trust, shared goals, and a willingness to think beyond traditional roles,” Sewick said. “By working side by side with our Crothall EVS partners, we were able to create something meaningful for patients and families. That spirit of partnership is what makes the difference.”

That impact hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“At Texas Children’s Hospital, the synergy between our Crothall and Morrison partners is a testament to the power of collaboration,” said Eric Allum, Vice President TCH Woodlands. “Together, they strive to create an environment that not only meets the highest standards of cleanliness and nutrition but also fosters a welcoming and engaging atmosphere for our patients, families, and staff. This unified approach ensures that every interaction is marked by quality and care, enhancing the overall hospital experience.”

A Shared Win for Everyone

For patients, it was a chance to just be kids. For families, it was a bright spot in a tough journey. And for staff, it was a practical example of how collaboration leads to stronger, more connected service.

Why It Matters

Events like this highlight the evolving role of support services. It’s not just about keeping spaces clean or delivering meals. It’s about shaping a more connected, responsive care environment. And that happens when collaboration is not the exception, but the expectation.

The Houston Open may be played on a course, but the most meaningful wins happened in the hallways and patient rooms of Texas Children’s.
